A team you can trust

Our team

The Oceanflight team consists of four founders who are passionate water sports and aviation enthusiasts, deeply connected to surfing, sailing, and flying. Their first venture together was a drone company that influenced and revolutionized the modern drone industry over the past 15 years and amazed billions of people with drone shows at prominent global events such as the Superbowl and the Olympics.

TITIAN SCHMEDES

Our mechanical and hardware expert

As a passionate water sports enthusiast and mechanical engineer, Titian obtained his degree in mechanical engineering at Hochschule Munich. During his academic journey, his deep-seated love for water sports, particularly surfing, naturally led him to embark on an exciting project: the creation of an electric hydrofoil surfboard for his master's thesis. Little did he know, this project would bring him into close collaboration with his current co-founders, Daniel, Jan, and Michael. The pursuit of developing hydrofoil vessels, driven by the shared ambition to make the exhilarating sensation of riding a flying boat accessible to all, quickly became Titian's new passion. In addition to his technical contributions, he also assumes the role of CEO at Oceanflight, overseeing all aspects of the daily business operations.

Daniel "Danny" Gurdan

Our algorithms and flight control wizard

Danny has created tech since he was young - Jugend forscht has been his playground. He created one of the world's first commercial drones, and co-founded Ascending Technologies with Jan and Michi back in 2007. He received his Electrical Engineering degree at Technical University of Munich, and built an underwater robot for his master's thesis at MIT. Danny is a wind seeker and water sports addict - he loves the connection of water, air and technology. In his day job Danny creates Stories in the Sky with his engineering team at Nova Sky Stories. At Oceanflight he makes boats fly in simulation and practice, working on our flight control architecture and its fine tuning on the water.

Jan Stumpf

Our electronics and software guy

Sailing got him onto the water as child, later he loved water sports with anything from yachts to eFoils. After getting his electrical engineer degree from the Technical University of Munich and finishing his master thesis at MIT, he co-founded Ascending Technologies where he developed leading drone technologies for more than a decade. After the acquisition by Intel he became Senior Principal Engineer for Drones and is now bringing a breadth of experience in electronics and software to Oceanflight. He is also an active business angel and well connected in the world of tech startups in Europe.

Michi

Our man for mechanical engineering, system design and prototyping – to get things fly

His passion for tech, building and flying all kind of model aircrafts got him into drones and co-founding of Ascending Technologies while finishing his Diploma degree in mechanical engineering at TU Munich. After the acquisition by Intel he worked in key positions of the drone team extending his experience to a wide range from start-up to big company. Working at Oceanflight brings him back to his engineering and tech routes. Combined with a passion for water sport this is the consequent next step.
